Practice knots used by captains and crew:
Every boater needs to be able to tie a proper cleat hitch. We depend on this knot to keep our boats safely secured to a dock or tied up to another boat.  Tying the cleat hitch correctly ensures that it will stay tied and will be easy to untie. The American Sailing Association has provided a short, easy to understand video that provides instructions for tying a proper cleat hitch.
